Like
a big guy in a dryer-shrunk shirt, June is busting out all over.
June
Bust Out One: A new flock of
all-knowings are graduating and about to make the world more
interesting, (including His Lordship's very own Sarah who will
graduate from Northwestern University with a double major, if
you please).
June
Bust Out Two: Our high-school
seniors are commencing with senior proms, pranks and
parties, all bound to give us a few senior moments of our own.
June
Bust Out Three: We've re-learned the basics
and drip-dried from spring so the true golf and tennis seasons can
now begin.
June
Bust Out Four: Through the miracles of
some sun and more science, winter-white bodies are tanned and we
can now disrobe at the beach without fear of arrest.
June
Bust Out Five & Five-and-a-half:
The first day of summer and Father's Day are both on the
same day, June 21st. Holy Guacamole!
And the
best place to celebrate official and unofficial commencement
activities - pre and post - is at The Landing at Seven Central.
June
Dinner Special
We've
officially ended the recession by ending our Recession Buster dinner
specials campaign (chicken-egg logic) but, habits are hard
to break and some habits are not worth breaking anyway, so we're
continuing our Friday
Night Fish Fry - all the fine haddock you can eat for $14 (per
person, of course).
Catering-by-the-Sea
Special Offer
We're
doing everything we can to make Catering-by-the-Sea your primary
resource for any party, gathering, event - big or small, indoors or
out, here, there or any place else. Simple said: If it matters
to you, it maters to us. Call John Martin (978 821 5108) or Chris
Shea at The Landing about our special offer. See what we can do to
make your event memorable.
June
3rd - The Other Ryan To Be Honored
Bob
Ryan will be honored as Manchester Business Person Of The
Year by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, June 3rd.
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the Samuel Lee Room. Stop
by and add an 'atta boy' of your own to one of
our own.
June
5th - Manchester-Essex Graduation
Our
congratulations to the Class of 2009, the last to graduate from our
soon-to-be-a-memory high school. Make your reservations early for a
pre or post celebration and we'll make sure there's a best
wishes and a piece of cake for each new graduate. (We won't
mention that the easy part's over.)
June
6th - Landing (Marblehead) birthday
The
Landing in Marblehead will mark its tenth anniversary. Cake all
around. Co-mingling with Marbleheaders is optional.
Celtic
Sessions - Sundays, the 7th & 21st
Michael
O'Leary with Jen and Bob Strom will host our ongoing Celtic
music session series in the Samuel Lee room from 6 to 9 p.m. (New
summer hours for your convenience.)
Open
Mic - Sunday, the 14th
Janice
& Will will host an Open Mic session in The Pub, starting
around 6:30 p.m.
Wines
of the World Dinner - Wednesday, the 17th
Our Wines
of the World Dinner Series visits France this time around. Fred
Cicerchia and Theresa McWilliams of Martinetti Wines will be our
guest hosts. Landing Executive Chef Blake Johnston will prepare a
special four course dinner which will be accompanied by four selected
french wines. As a special treat, we'll also sample an older first
growth Bordeaux from Chateau Margeaux. (Incidentally, a 1982
Chateau Margeaux recently sold for $3,529.) This is a
reservations-only dinner in the Lee Room. So, if you want a
truly unique evening, give us a call early. (Price: $40
including tax and tip.)
Open Cribbage - Sunday, the 21st
The
May Cribbage battle was won by Tom Andrews of Manchester. Skunks were
in absentia.
The
cribbagers will assemble in The Pub on Sunday, the 17th,
starting at 6 p.m.
Father's
Day & Summer Begins - Sunday, the 21st
Since
we are forever politically correct - sometimes - we'll celebrate
Father's Day as we did Mother's Day. We'll be open for
brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m with special menu
offerings including Lobster Eggs Benedict, Lobster Frittata and
a seafood quiche. As always, best wishes will be extended
throughout the day.
The
Last Dance - Saturday, the 27th
The
Rotary Club will sponsor The Last Dance - a fun AND LAST
event at the Manchester-Essex High School. Two days later, the
old building will be demolished. Appropriate pre and post
partying will be at The Landing. Call for reservations.
5th
Monday Loyalty Club Supper - Monday, the 29th
As
always, the 5th Monday of any month is Loyalty Club Supper
Night. Any Loyalty Club member will get $10 off any food
purchase.
May
Contest Winners
Jill
Egan won our May Food Trivia contest when she correctly
answered that (according to First For Women magazine) peppermint
candy can help relieve stress.
Debra
Bright won our Birthday Imposter quizlet, when she stamped
Back Street Boys singer Kevin Richardson as the imposter - not
born on May 20th, 1980 but on October 3, 1971. Does that
make Kevin a Back Street Geezer?
Think
you know the answers or can just out-guess the rest of us?
Mug
& Cocktail Club members will get $10 off
every food purchase on Monday, the 1st and again on Monday, the 15th.
Wine
Clubbers get the same on Mondays, the 8th and 22nd.
If
you're not a member of one or both, sign up online or
when you come in.
Also,
don't forget Trivia
Night with Brian every Wednesday in the
Pub; our Golf, Bike
& Summer Sports Night every Thursday in the Pub
and our newly revised (and more fun) Friday Music Trivia Night with
Johnny in the Pub.
After
September's nomination as Best Month of the Year by POSACs
(Parents of School-Aged Children), we have no objection to the
National Teachers Union nominating June as a Best Month
candidate. Although, we are opposed to the NTU's effort to have May
reduced to 15 days so June could be moved forward and the school
year ended even earlier.
When would we schedule The
Preakness, French Open and Indy 500?
Take
care. Be well. And stop by.

If
you have suggestions or comments about this, that or the other
thing, please let us know. Useful ideas that can help us always
provide you with a memorable dining experience at The Landing are
always worth a Thank You and a $25 dinner gift certificate.
Sincerely,
Chris Shea
